Locks of Love

Well I have been growing my hair out since after we had Alohi.  Actually I wasn't purposefully growing my hair out, it just helped with the budget ($40 a cut) and trying to make time to get my hair done with working and wanting to be mom.  So I just never went. I did however go right before I had Po'okela with a friend (Gina) because she said I could use a pick me up with the 100+ degree weather and to feel girlie. I loved what the girl did with my hair and went back after Po'okela was born.  However, everyone knows we moved and things got crazy. While in OKC for Rylan's training last summer I got it cut again, but hadn't done anything to it.  So in Hawaii (where long locks are such a cultural thing), my mom asked me when I was going to do something different with my hair because it was getting too long.  That's where I got the idea to cut it for lock for love and donate my hair.

Now if you know anything about me I do pretty well with change... kind of... okay I have to warm up to it.  After asking around and taking Alohi for a trim and something for her hair, I found out that Great Clips will give you a free hair cut if you donate it and do all the work to send your hair in for you.  FREE!! and they pay the postage! Well I was on board, but working up the courage to actually do it was a whole other story.

Thankfully last Sunday, I woke up to my crazy mane and I was done. I didn't want it in a bun or dry it or braid it... it was just too much hair.  So I talked with a few friends from church to find out that one of the members actually works at Great Clips.  As after lunch at home, I told Rylan I needed to get my hair done (only if Alisa was working). I called and she was there... I went because I knew the next day I would lose the courage to actually cut it.

My heart was pounding and I almost turned around to go home... but... Here is is.

Here's the best picture I have of my long hair before it was cut.

11 inches measured out to cut... I could have donated 14 if I was ready for a short bob hair, but I wanted it a bit longer than that.

After it was done... she cut about 13 inches total.

My locks going for someone special that I will never know... Then learned that I could sell my hair for HUGE amounts of $$ because of my "virgin" (never dyed, all natural hair) hair and its natural coloring and health... I may need to look into this more, but I know it went to someone who would truly appreciate it!

And I love my short hair... its taken about 3-4 years to grow it out... but it was fun!

Home and my hair completely dried.

Wet and sassy hair...

I haven't done much playing with it... I know I can straighten it and give myself a whole new style and have fun. So far I like the way is air dries, which is perfect for the summer.  And don't worry, Rylan likes it. He said I look good with short style or long, he just wishes it didn't take so long to grow out.

Questions: Would I do this again.... YES!
