Po'okela's Early 1st Luau

Nana & Papa made their long journey from Hawaii to throw Po'okela his 1st Luau. We started the day out with preparing everything we would need to celebrate Po'okela's first year!

Decorations

I love this picture below because you can see him.

Above: We have the food table, hammock and a bunch of lawn chairs.
Below: We have the kids activities.  A pool, palm tree sprinkler, slipper slide & kiddy splash area. My mom had dreamed of a huge pool (12 feet I think), but we could only find the activities we got.

These are few of the friends that we were able to get still shots of.  I love Boedy (middle boy)! He came totally dressed for the occasion!

Below: Po'okela is sitting with Brady, who is sharing his cheese ball with him.

While we got the food set up the kids got to run around and play in the water activities.  The kids party favors were mega squirt guns and they put them to good use throughout the party.  The food we had was:
Pupus (appetizers): cheese balls & sausage
Main Course: Rice, noodle/potato salad (my dad's speciality), chinese chicken salad, kalua pig, & terriyaki meatballs
Dessert: Haupia (coconut dessert) & of course cupcakes

Everyone enjoyed the meal and I think it was a huge hit! We had blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy our meal!

Po'okela really, really liked the haupia! I think he ate 2 slices.  Haupia is like a coconut jello/pudding.  But not jello.  It is hard to explain, but it is yummy and the one thing that I enjoy that is coconut!

After the meal the kids continued to play in the water, but took a break to sing happy birthday to Po'okela. I made him a Honu pull apart cupcake cake. I think it turned out great!  To the bottom left, I made Po'okela a smash cupcake.

During the singing Po'okela reached for his smash cupcake and got an early taste! I think he enjoyed the yummy goodness!

He was not happy at the end. I think it was more because it was his bedtime & kept signing to nurse, but he still had presents to open up. During his cupcake eating his friend Brady went to play with his presents, but he kept a watchful eye on him!
After a quick bath, Po'okela came out to open his presents and then bid everyone a goodnight.  It was 8:00 when everything was all said and done.  He was every happy to nurse and be laid to bed.

How many kids can you fit on the hammock? I think we got 9 on it!

However the party didn't end there.  The kids then started a full force water fight with the men! The pool's water was completely emptied out, along with the kids getting smart by using the palm tree's sprinkler system as a soaking machine.  At one point they started to get into the coolers to get the icy cold water to shoot.  I think the water guns were a huge hit and I thought some of the adults would get wet, but not leave soaked!  It did rain for a little bit, but that didn't stop anyone from having fun!

Thank you to all our Scottsbluff friends coming out to celebrate Po'okela's early 1st Birthday!!
